Orange County Hiking and Outdoor Adventures

There is so much to choose from when it comes to outdoor activities; hiking, surfing, kayaking, cycling, or boating, and one place in California has it all – Orange County. With an ideal temperate climate all year round and the best of both land and sea, Orange County offers an array of outdoor activities that are great for adventurous souls and families looking for a weekend of fun.

Orange County is especially great for family fun activities. The weather is always great and sunny, and the multiple outdoor places you can explore with kids are educational, safe, and exciting. While visiting the Disney Land resort is enough for a dream come true vacation for kids and parents, there are plenty of other activities OC offers that will make for a memorable trip.

There are plenty of amazing locations in Orange County, perfect for hiking and biking for both adults and kids. The Limestone Canyon in Orange County’s Irvine is a splendid location that offers miles of tracks for exploration. These trails offer excellent exercise opportunities and a sight for sore eyes.

Additionally, Irvine offers hiking and camping trips during full moons, which makes for excellent views that only a few have witnessed.

Some of the most beautiful and fun beaches in California are based in Orange County that aren’t too crowded either. Most beaches also offer surfing classes for all ages, which is a great idea if you have kids to introduce them to a new outdoor activity.

Even if you don’t surf on the beach, just walking along the coastline feels great, with kids collecting seashells or building sandcastles. Most beaches also offer kayaking and boating opportunities that will make the seaside adventure even more fun.

Beaches are a great place to have a bonfire and a story night with your family.

You can also explore tide pools when you go out on the beach. Tide pools are great for kids to enjoy the seawater, and if you are lucky, you can spot some amazing sea creatures, seashells, and fish near the rocks that make for a fascinating learning opportunity for kids. However, before visiting any tide pools, make sure the tides are low; otherwise, you won’t really be able to discover anything interesting.

Whale Watching

Orange County offers whale watching tours every day, all year round! This would be something your kids would never forget. Imagine witnessing some of the most magnificent sea creatures coming out of the ocean, splashing water all over the cruise. On your whale-watching trips, you can spot dolphins, gray whales, and a few humpback whales.

Butterfly Pavillion

Who doesn’t love butterflies? The National History Museum in LA is a safe haven for over 30 unique species of butterflies that you can see along with your kids and learn all about them.

Wrap Up

Orange County offers every kind of outdoor activity. Even a simple walk outside in the city is enough to make you fall in love with California’s rich culture and heritage.

And as you can tell, one trip is never enough to explore all the fantastic adventure Orange County has to offer. Whatever you choose to do, the unlimited list of fun outdoor activities will definitely make for a memorable and fun trip for you and the entire family.

Easter Arts And Crafts

Easter Arts And Crafts

Easter Arts and Crafts is the perfect way to spend your day with the little ones this Easter. Home Depot or any of your nearby paint stores have a variety of paint chips for this particular craft. Grab as many as you like and enjoy a very fun way to decorate the house for Easter! This DIY (Do It Yourself) Paint Chip Garland is the perfect touch to create a very festive ambiance while creating memories as well. The white line in the middle of the paint chip almost mimics the look of a plastic egg!

1.) You can use the link below to print and cut out an egg template. Home Depot’s Behr paint chips have four colors per card, so you would cut them in half eliminating all white except for the line between the two color shades.

2.) Next trace the egg on the back of the card so there aren’t any residual pencil marks on the front, and then cut them out.

3.) Lastly, punch two small holes in the top of each egg with an extra small hole punch and very carefully thread them onto a piece of waxed cotton.

DIY Watercolor Wooden Eggs For Easter Basket

This is a very fun treat for your little ones and a way for them to be very creative. All you need are wooden Grimm style blocks in an egg like shape from your local arts and crafts store, watercolor and a paint brush.  Although liquid watercolors are very vibrant and bright, they are completely washable. They are also the most kid-friendly dyeing method and if you get a stain on your hands, it will wash off within 2-3 washes.

1.) Squirt some liquid watercolor into a container and provide a few eggs for your little one and enjoy watching them paint away!

2.) Once the eggs are fully painted, carefully set them on a paper towel to dry overnight.

3.) By the next day, you can set them out for an Easter egg hunt; put them in an Easter basket, or in an empty egg carton for them to enjoy playing with!

Family Fun & Wellness Fair!

Family Fun & Wellness Fair: Gather the family! Once a year Pretend City puts on a health fair to kick off the summer just right! There will be plenty of entertainment, giveaways and endless activities for the WHOLE family to enjoy. There will be free developmental check ups and health screenings including hearing, speech and language, behavior, body mass index, height and weight, blood pressure and dental! wow! now that’s a sweet deal!

The Goal
Children receiving developmental screenings at their well-child visits is very important. The goal of the health and wellness fair is to educate parents on how to optimize their child’s healthy development and strengthen their skills. This event is one of the greatest in Orange County to receive resourceful material of value and speak with trained professionals about your child’s development.

When and Where
The Family Fun & Wellness Fair will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM
Pretend City Childrens Museum
29 Hubble
Irvine, CA 92618
Don’t miss this wonderful day that Pretend City puts on because its going to be well worth it! Just this last year they attracted over 1,500 visitors and did over 2,000 screenings.

Lets not get Lice!
One more thing! Don’ t forget anytime the kiddos interact with others, especially at fun events, sleepovers, play dates etc, it is safest to put their hair up. Head lice is spread mostly by head to head contact. A lot of us mommies need to go to “You Tube” to find DIY videos to make our daughters hair look adorable in a up do! The benefits are endless because when our children’s hair is down and they come into contact with another infested person, the length of their hair is the length of the target for lice to be flung, or contracted from head to head contact.

At LCA OC we offer professional head lice removal services as well as screenings so if your kids have spent a good time with other kids and you want piece of mind or need to be treated, we are here for you.

Don’t let that extra Halloween candy go to waste

Don’t let that extra Halloween candy go to waste

Now that Halloween has passed you are probably finding that you have bags and bags full of candy left over which is too much for any one child to eat. We are here to give you some new ideas and help you turn that left over candy into a fun and exciting treat. There are so many options from chocolate to skittles and everything in between!! I’m sure this Halloween season you found there were some new candies out there that you didn’t even know existed.

How to turn a boring candy bar into something the whole family can enjoy

First we will start with the Reese’s which come in all kinds; there are the regular cups or the minis, all of which can be used to make delicious brownies. Throw in some Reese’s to your regular brownie mix and watch your kids eyes light up as they bite into this new creation.

What about all of the mini chocolate bars?

There are so many options and what we have found is you can melt down all of those yummy bars and make a fondue out of it. You will have a creamy and chocolaty treat that you can dip fruit or even other candy in.

Did you say Ice Cream?

Put some of the more fruity candy like skittles or jolly rancher in your ice cream or frozen yogurt and find that kids are even more excited for dessert. There are so many options to make your Halloween candy go from a burden to a new adventure and fun for everyone.

How can you get your child to do chores?

How can you get your child to do chores?

Cleaning around the house can be so hard, especially when you finally clean the whole house which takes hours, and your kids mess it up in 5 minutes. They have their chores to do daily but sometimes you ask them if those have been completed you get a frown or an excuse. Sometimes after a long day at work we don’t have the energy to argue about them doing their chores or homework.

How to make cleaning fun

Kids are natural helpers they want to do whatever you are doing or help you with your work. Switch the message from chores being a bother to chores being a good thing that will help you and the family make life easier. Make sure you give them chores that are age appropriate. Having a 3 year old putting away all of their laundry would be overwhelming. However helping put some cups in the kitchen or assisting you push the vacuum here or there are great ways to have your child help you. Children like to be of help so any small task you give them is probably going to be received as a great accomplishment. Make sure to give them validation afterwards so their love to do chores will grow on them.

Offer an invitation rather than a command

Use “we” or “us” rather than “you” when talking about doing the chores. You don’t need to offer praise with everything good your child does but once and a while tell them how they are such a great helper or how they are really making a difference at home. They might not want to help every chance they get but put on some music and make cleaning an activity rather then a chore and you will find they will be more willing to lend a hand.

How to stay lice free on Halloween

How to stay lice free on Halloween

Halloween is coming up and it can be such fun with your family from pumpkin carving to trick or treating, dressing up and eating candy until your tummy hurts.

We want to give you some tips to help you keep your family lice free during this Halloween season. Some of these things you might not have thought of while others you may already be doing. Dressing up can be so fun for you and your children! It is common to share customes, wigs and other decorative items with your friends so that you can be many different characters throughout  Halloween week, here’s some tips to stay lice free:

  1. When exchanging customes, pay special attention to anything hair or head related. Check wigs, hats, hair bands, etc for evidence of lice.
  2. Ideally wash customes and put them on the dryer before re-using. If you can’t put them in the dryer, put them in an air tight bag for 48hrs.
  3. Itching is normal after wearing wigs, if your child is scratching… don’t panic. Wash their hair and dry it out, section the hair in small pieces to look for evidence of head lice, most likely it’s just a scare!
  4. Sleepovers are very common during halloween wig. We don’t want to ruin the fun but we want to help you be ahead of the game! If your child has sleepovers scheduled, put a head lice preventative spray on his/her bag.

Being aware and on the watch is the best remedy to avoid infestations. If at the end your child ends up having head lice, relax, we got this! Give us a call or schedule online and we’ll help you out. At LCA OC we have a solution for every budget, stating at $39.99! Find out more here.

Learn something new while waiting in line.

Learn something new while waiting in line.

Summer is here and that means that you and your family will go on great adventures whether it is a plane ride or a road trip or even a ride down to the beach this warm weather brings some great fun in the sun. Think about what you have to do before you get to the adventure, usually it involves standing in line or waiting in a parking lot which gives your child a lot of time to play on all of their ipads or phones. Since they are on their devices anyway why not use it as a tool for fun learning. There are so many amazing apps these days available for free in either itunes or the google play store.

Counting caterpillars and reflex math are great ways to engage your child while having fun, you will see your child’s learning capability grow and eyes widen with excitement. Star Map and Learning Bird ID allow your child to broaden their horizons past the clouds and the sky while understanding their immediate surroundings as well. Teaching your child to read at a young age is so important to the early development and there are many amazing apps to help assist you, Hale’s Tale and Teach your monster to read are just a few of the great apps that we suggest.

Bluster and Mad Libs expand on storytelling, problem solving and spelling allowing your child to get ahead. All of these apps and more are specifically designed to benefit your child’s learning process and I know that angry birds is fun but lets help our children learn and grown. The next time you find yourself waiting at a counter or standing in a line take advantage of that time and watch them laugh, learn and have fun.

What are some healthy snack for kids?

What are some healthy snack for kids?

Today there are so many products and snacks out there for kids that are filled with sugar and fats that may taste good but they  may be harmful to your child’s health. All of these quick to go packaged snacks with high fructose corn syrup and MSG aren’t good for your growing and young child. Making lunches and snacks for you kids everyday can be hard and time consuming which is why we suggest packing all of the snack in baggies on Sunday so they can be ready for the rest of the week.

Fruits and veggies

Grab some carrots and strawberries maybe some blueberries and apple slices and put them in a Ziploc bag and use those for healthy snacks. Try using peanut butter in your celery sticks, add some raisins on top and you have a fun and nutritious snack for anytime.

Healthy Ice Cream

We know that some kids can be picky eaters and want to have ice cream or a popsicle for dessert let me give you a few options to help make your dessert less about sugar and more about taste. Some of these “all fruit” popsicles can actually contain artificial flavors and high trans-fat. Try making smoothies for your children instead, this way you can insure that your children are actually consuming something this is all fruit. They can eat the smoothies as is or you can freeze them and make them into popsicles, along with freezing the smoothies frozen grapes or strawberries can be a delicious treat for kids as well. If you have an ice cube tray try putting some yogurt in the tray along with some fresh fruit such as blueberries or raspberries.

Ideas to go Banana’s!

Bananas are a great source of nutrition and taste great too, here are some great tips to spice up your regular bananas. Pan fried bananas with some cinnamon sugar or dipping them in chocolate are great dessert ideas that will taste great and have your kids asking for more.

LCA OC is here not just to help with the Lice problem that so many families have dealt with, but our goal is to have happy and healthy kids. Join us in our venture!
